‘GMA3’ hosts Amy Robach and DJ Holmes leave ABC after reported romance

DJ Holmes and Amy Robach, anchors of the third hour of ABC’s flagship morning show “Good Morning America,” are leaving ABC News, network president Kim Godwin announced in a memo to employees Friday evening.

“I know this has been a distraction for many of us, but don’t forget all the great work that makes ABC News the #1 news network in America, and it’s all because of you,” Godwin wrote in the memo. “I want to thank you again for your patience and professionalism during this time,” via CNN.

A decision on who will co-host ABC’s “GMA3” and “20/20” — which Robach co-hosts — will come later, Godwin said.

“After many fruitful conversations with Amy Robach and TJ Holmes about different options, we all agreed that moving on from ABC News was in the best interest of everyone,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement Friday evening. “We recognize their talent and dedication over the years and thank them for their contributions.”

The network is in talks with the “GMA3” anchors this week about the exit, and talks have advanced to the final stage, a person familiar with the matter said. A final deal could be reached by Friday afternoon.

“There’s a lot of frustration on all sides that could have been handled better,” the person said.

After the Daily Mail reported that Holmes and Robach were romantically involved last month, they were all out.

In a memo sent to network employees at the time, ABC News President Kim Godwin announced that the anchors would remain off the air pending the outcome of an internal review.

Godwin called the matter an “internal and external distraction” and asked employees not to “gossiper” about the matter while at work.

Although the couple has not aired on “GMA3,” they have filled a rotating cast of hosts for Roebuck and Holmes.
