Meta’s new text-based social network Threads hit 100 million users in its first five days.

The app is now the most used social media platform in the US, rivaling TikTok, which had 102.3 million active US users in May, according to data from Insider Intelligence.

On a Monday Mail In threads announcing the milestone, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the user base is “mostly organic demand” and that Meta “doesn’t run many ads yet.”

But Threads has benefited from its integration with Instagram, Meta’s photo-sharing social network, which had 135 million active US users in May. Users can sign up for a Threads account by linking their Instagram account.

Although not yet available in Europe due to European Union data privacy regulations, Threads has reached 100 million users faster than any other app. Its speed of growth easily beat artificial intelligence app ChatGPT, which took two months to reach that mark. UPS course.

Threads still trails other social media platforms globally by a wide margin. Facebook has more than 2 billion users, Instagram 1.4 billion and Twitter more than 363 million, according to Insider Intelligence’s May tally.

The introduction of Threads came as Twitter’s popularity waned. Matthew Prince, CEO of network security company Cloudflare, He tweeted that A graph showing that Twitter’s traffic rank has steadily declined this year.

Twitter did not respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment on Monday.

It’s been a tumultuous few months for Twitter since Elon Musk bought the company, with a flurry of text-based alternatives gaining attention this year. The threads have received a particularly strong response from Twitter – shortly after the threads were launched, Twitter threatened legal action against the meta.
