DRHS junior boys tie Middleton with seconds left

DIGBY - Thankfully a junior boys high school soccer game is 90 minutes, not 79 minutes and 55 seconds.

With only five seconds remaining in Thursday’s game against Middleton, Digby’s Noah Titus put the ball in the net to tie it up 1-1.

Neither team was able to score in the first 45 minutes but Middleton’s Ned Brooks found the back of the net to start the second.

Despite constant pressure and several close shots, one even hitting the post, the Mariners needed almost every remaining second to tie it up.

And even then it wasn’t a sure thing.

Titus’ shot hit the hand of a Middelton defender on the way to the net and the referee might have assigned a red card and awarded a penalty kick. Instead he decided the handball was not deliberate and let the goal stand.

The DRHS junior boys are on the road Monday for their final league game and then they play the opening playoff game Tuesday, possibly at the DRHS field at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday is district finals.
