CLARE-DIGBY, NS – The Clare-Digby Midget A Ravens earned gold in the annual SEDMHA Tournament this past weekend, defeating the Bedford Blues 5-4 in the championship game to bring home the Accord Championship banner.
The boys were able to come together in the tournament, play as one and bring home the banner to finish the year on a high note.
Eight teams started out the tournament.
The Clare-Digby Midget A Ravens opened play with a 4-1 loss versus the Sackville Flyers, in the Odyssey Championship division. The second game saw the Clare-Digby Midget A Ravens beat the Dartmouth Whalers with a 6-4 win.
The Ravens’ third game was a 4-2 loss versus the Queens County Cougars, which dropped the team down to the Accord Division.
The semifinal game saw the Ravens edge out the Eastern Shore Mariners with a 3-2 win during a nail-biting shootout. Bedford defeated Dartmouth 6-1 in the other semifinal.
The championship game in which the Ravens defeated the Bedford Blues 5-4 went to a three-on-three overtime. The Ravens scored the first goal, to which the Bedford Blues answered back. Each goal scored by the Clare-Digby team, was answered right away by the Bedford Blues forcing the 10 minute overtime with Ryan Gunn, the Clare-Digby Ravens captain, scoring the winning goal assisted by Myles Titus. Player of the game was Dustin Maillet.
The Clare-Digby Midget A Ravens is a team made up of players from five different schools, Liam White – YCMHS; Tristen d’Entremont, Kailen Saulnier and Ethan Saulnier – ESPB; Ethan Murphy – ESDC; Aaron Comeau, Dustin Maillet, Brandon Brooks (Assistant captain), Donovan Mullen, Jesse Sabean, Jonah Stone – SMBA; Alex Titus, Owen Titus, Myles Titus, Mike Murphy, Ryan Gunn (Captain), Ryker Pulley (assistant captain), Spenser Hazel, Connor Fredericks – DRHS.
Head coach is Gary LeBlanc, with Wade Hazel and Rodney Pulley serving as assistant coaches and Shannon Murphy as team manager.
