Drag-a-neighbour bonspiel to recruit new curlers

Aralee Green is dragging her neighbour Margaret Gray to the fun-focussed Drag-a-Neighbour bonspiel at the Digby Area Curling Club on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16.

The Digby Area Curling Club is literally dragging in new recruits.

To start off the season and attract new members they are organizing a Drag-a-Neighbour bonspiel for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16 at the Digby Area Curling Club.

Every team has to have at least one new curler, either someone who has never curled before or hasn’t curled as part of a league recently.

The focus of the bonspiel will be on fun, says one of the organizers Aralee Green.

“We’re going to do a few things different,” she says. “We’ll be asking the teams to change who plays what position; and after lunch Saturday, everyone comes back on the ice to curl for points and prizes. We’re going to make sure everyone in the bonspiel gets a prize.”

The bonspiel entry fee also includes lunch on Saturday and all for a great price of just $60 per team.

Registration for the upcoming season takes place Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Digby Curling Centre.

“It really is a social sport,” says Green. “You meet great people and have a lot of fun.”

The club is also planning some Friday Night Fun Nights and Free Family Curling through the year.
