According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, Richard Ackerman, 22, stole a Capitol Police officer's helmet before entering a restricted building on the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6. >> Download the free WMUR app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play < Ackerman referred to the helmet as his “battle trophy” and took the helmet with him to New Hampshire, court records say. The FBI said it recovered the helmet from Ackerman's home in June 2022. According to court documents, Ackerman grabbed a water bottle and threw it at officers in the Lower West Terrace subway. Sentencing is scheduled for July 25 in Washington, DC The U.S. Attorney's Office said 1,300 people have been charged in connection with the Capitol attack.
