Hideki Matsuyama wins the opening round of the PGA Tour playoffs

0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hideki Matsuyama lost a five-shot lead through four holes and responded with birdies on two tough holes of course to salvage an even-par 70 and two-shot victory Sunday at FedEx St. Jude. Championship.

The start of the PGA Tour’s postseason has had tense moments at the top of the leaderboard and on the bubble, determining the top 50 players who advance to the FedEx Cup.

Nick Dunlop needed his best motivation to extend his season from a chance to win and he delivered his best day to advance to next week. Tom Kim is guaranteed to advance to the next FedEx Cup playoff event as long as he finishes his season 6-6-6.

Xander Schauffele started nine shots behind and was waiting to see if a playoff would come. Hovland had a one-shot lead with two holes to play.

In the end, it came down to Matsuyama.

He had a five-shot lead earlier in the day and went 27 straight holes without a bogey before rolling in a 20-foot birdie putt on the 11th to take a five-man lead.

Then it all came crashing down — a three-putt bogey on the 12th, a tee shot in the water on the par-3 14th and a struggle for bogey, two chips to reach the 15th green for a double bogey.

As it was, he was one shot behind the hard-charging Hovland, the defending FedEx Cup champion with no guarantee he could defend his title at the BMW Championship next week. 57 made it to the postseason.

Hovland, however, picked up bogey from the bunker on the 17th hole — the third hardest at TPC Southwind in the final round — and missed a 9-foot birdie opportunity on the 18th for a 66.

He was tied for 63 with Schaffele, who played bogey-free in the sweltering heat.

Matsuyama, who has been magical with his putter all week, delivered big. He got to the front of the green on the 17th from the left rough, then rolled in a birdie putt from 25 feet over to stay one in front.

The final group on the final hole — the toughest of the day — came down to this: Matsuyama needed par to win, and Dunlop needed to move from 67th to the top 50. A bogey would have hit the former US amateur. Champion within the top 50.

The two parted ways in the middle of the fairway. Dunlop hit his approach 20 feet out, while Matsuyama braved the flag to 6 feet dead for another birdie.

“I was a train wreck. I’m not going to lie to you. I was really nervous to be honest,” Dunlap said of the last two holes. “I don’t want the season to end.”

He tied for fifth place with a 69.

Matsuyama, who finished at 17-under 263, won for the second time this year. He shot a final-round 62 to win the Genesis Invitational at Riviera. His performance was golden except for that awkward four-hole stretch as he won a bronze medal at the Olympics.

He won $3.6 million and FedEx Cup No. Moved from 8th to 3rd.

It’s been a week for the Japanese star, who has had to find a fill-in caddy and can only work with her coach over the phone. They went out to dinner in London on their way home from the Paris Olympics when someone stole their bag when they weren’t looking.

The thief took Matsuyama’s wallet and the passports of his caddy and coach. They had to return to Japan and work on getting quick replacements. Matsuyama pressed on like it was just another work week and came away with his first win of the season.

The 50th and final spot went to Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who was scheduled to be out of the cut for most of Sunday.

Hovland, Dunlap and Eric Cole (No. 54) moved into the top 50. Despite a bogey on the closing hole, Cole did it in style with a 63. Rounding out the top 50 were Kim (No. 43), Mackenzie Hughes (No. 48) and Jake Knapp (No. 50).

Kim looked poised to advance until it took two shots to get out of a greenside bunker on the par-5 16th (bogey), two chips to get to the green on the 17th (double bogey) and a tee shot into the water on the 18th (double bogey).

“This season has just been … it’s been like this,” Kim said. “I played really good golf and then made some tough decisions. I feel like 2024 really kicked me.”

Harris and Walls will campaign by bus in Pennsylvania before the Democratic convention in Chicago

0

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and running companion Tim Walls He will be campaigning by bus in southwestern Pennsylvania on Sunday, hoping to ride the wave of excitement his candidacy has brought to the presidential race. Nominating convention of their party This week in Chicago.

Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Walls will join their spouses, Doug Emhoff and Gwen Walls, as they hop on and off buses in the Pittsburgh area.

Harris and Emhoff were scheduled to deliver remarks at an event in Rochester, Beaver County. Donald TrumpThe Republican presidential nominee won in 2020, though he lost to a Democrat in the general election. Joe Biden.

Southwestern Pennsylvania is an important part of a key battleground state that has long attracted the attention of presidential candidates. The state voted for the Republican presidential candidate in 2016 and the Democratic candidate in 2020. Both Harris and Trump are competing over who can put Pennsylvania in their column on Nov. 5.

Most polls incl New York Times/Siena College Poll And Fox NewsFind out Harris and Trump are in a tight race across the state.

Trump held a rally in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday In the northeastern part of the state, following his earlier rallies in Harrisburg and Butler in July, he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.

The bus trip was Harris’ eighth trip to Pennsylvania and his second this month. August 6 announcement by the Vice President The ticket came just hours before their first joint appearance in Philadelphia, where Walls would be his partner.

“It’s traditionally a very important state, but southwestern Pennsylvania has really been a battleground part of the battleground state,” said Christine Kantak, associate professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh.

Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh, is a diverse county with urban, suburban and rural areas, and many who are undecided about how they will vote, he said.

“It makes sense to come here and ask for votes because the votes are available here,” Kantak said of Harris. “It’s not just about changing your platform. It’s about having the opportunity to speak to a truly undecided voter.

In the 2020 race, Biden won Allegheny County with 60% of the vote, while Trump won neighboring Beaver County, which includes Rochester, with 58% of the vote.

After Trump’s surprise victory in the state in 2016, Biden flipped Pennsylvania in 2020 — and, in doing so, won the White House — in part by boosting his vote in Democratic Pittsburgh, the state’s second-largest city. County seat of Allegheny County.

Biden has enthusiastically reached out to the region’s blue-collar unions, announcing his 2020 presidential campaign at the Teamsters Hall in Pittsburgh saying, “I’m a union man.” As president, he opposed the takeover of Pittsburgh’s storied American Steel by a Japanese firm, saying it “must remain an American firm,” and enacted steep tariffs on Chinese steel.

Biden dropped his re-election bid It bid last month and endorsed Harris as his replacement on the ticket.

Trump, hoping for strong votes from his base of white, working-class voters, has not conceded that area. Districts around Pittsburgh have swung from Democratic to Republican, with Trump winning both of his previous runs in the recent presidential election.

Trump has also embraced protectionist trade policies and insists he is pro-labor. His vow to boost U.S. energy production and “drill, baby, drill” resonated in southwestern Pennsylvania blue-collar counties like Washington, where a natural gas drilling boom has helped make Pennsylvania the nation’s No. 2 producer behind Texas. Harris once wanted to ban fracking, a process of extracting oil and gas, and has recently repudiated his previous position.

Dana Brown, director of the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics at Chatham University, said in an interview that Harris will use the bus tour to reach voters in the southwest region of the state. Rotate local media coverage.

“He’s going to get that free media attention,” Brown said. “I believe their belief is correct, to pick up that momentum and focus on her, and less on her opponent.”

Bus tours have become a staple of political campaigns because of the free media coverage they generate. Such trips get candidates out of their power suits and out of Washington so they can travel the country and score face-to-face with voters in small venues like diners and mom-and-pop shops.

Biden rolled across Iowa Eight days bus journey He called it “no malarkey” in December 2019.

During his 2012 re-election campaign, President Barack Obama toured small-town Ohio on his “Betting on America” bus tour.

“It’s always fun to be out in Washington, and it’s wonderful to meet people,” Obama said during a stop.

Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton traveled by bus while campaigning for a second term.

The Democratic National Convention begins Monday.

Hurricane Ernesto makes landfall in the wealthy British territory of Bermuda

0

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Hurricane Ernesto weakened to a tropical storm late Saturday as it moved across open Atlantic waters from Bermuda, bringing heavy rain and strong winds early in the morning as it passed the tiny British territory.

Ernesto forced residents to stay indoors, and more than 23,000 people lost power, officials said. By late Saturday, the storm’s maximum sustained winds had dropped to 70 mph (110 kph). It was centered about 140 miles (225 kilometers) northeast of Bermuda and was moving north-northeast at 8 mph (13 km).

The National Hurricane Center has warned of strong winds, dangerous storm surge and significant coastal flooding for Bermuda.

Bermuda could get 7 to 9 inches (17-22.5 centimeters) of rain, the center said. “These rains will cause significant life-threatening flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas of the island,” it said.

Due to the storm’s large size and slow movement, sometimes up to hurricane force is expected into Saturday night and tropical storm-force winds are expected to continue into Sunday, the Bermuda government said.

As of Saturday afternoon, Michelle Pitcher, director of the Bermuda Weather Service, said wind speeds were still reaching hurricane force. “It’s still very difficult out there,” he said.

A tropical storm warning will remain in place overnight, Pitcher said.

Premier David Burt shared a video on social media platform X thanking emergency services and encouraging residents to stay inside.

“Overnight, tropical storm force winds will still be present and we urge everyone to exercise caution,” he said. “Stay at home.”

Bermuda’s power company Belco said 23,000 customers were without power as of Saturday night.

The hurricane center reported life-threatening surf and rip currents along the East Coast of the United States and Canada. Ernesto is expected to pass near southeastern Newfoundland on Monday night and may regain hurricane strength, it said.

Lana Morris, manager of the Edgehill Manor Guest House in Bermuda, said conditions remained calm, although the wind had picked up again. “I talked to my guests and they said they still have electricity, they still have water, they’re comfortable.”

Morris said he communicated with his guests by phone. “They don’t have internet — but if the network goes down, it goes down. They’re safe, and I’m happy about that.

Bermuda is an archipelago of 181 small islands whose total land area is roughly the size of Manhattan.

According to Accuweather, it is unusual for a hurricane’s eye to make landfall in Bermuda. It noted that before today, since 1850, only 11 of the 130 tropical storms that made landfall within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of Bermuda had made landfall.

The region is a renowned offshore financial center with solid construction, and given its altitude, storm surge is not as problematic as low-lying islands.

Ernesto earlier hit the northeastern Caribbean, where it left tens of thousands of people without water in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico’s national power company, LUMA, said it had restored power to more than 1.3 million customers 72 hours after the storm passed.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education said all public schools will resume operations on Monday after cleaning up and removing debris.

Classes in Puerto Rico’s public schools were also scheduled to begin Monday, nearly a week after their original date.

Ernesto is the fifth named storm and third hurricane of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting an above-average Atlantic hurricane season this year Due to the warmest sea temperatures on record. It predicts 17 to 25 named storms with four to seven major hurricanes.

Trump rally: In battleground Pennsylvania, Trump tries to counter Harris’ surge

0

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) – Former President Donald Trump Repeatedly from a message focused on the economy on Saturday.

During a rally in northeastern Pennsylvania, Trump wound back and forth between hitting his points on economic policy and offering insults and impressions of President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

After the Democrats changed their nominee, the former president appeared to be struggling to adjust to his new opponent. For the past week, he Different during campaign appearances Straying from the principles he was supposed to be talking about, he was instead diverted to a familiar cycle of attack lines and insults.

As he attacked Democrats for inflation at the top of his speech, Trump asked his supporters, “You don’t mind if I turn off the teleprompter for a second, do you? Joe Biden hates her.

Trump’s rally in Wilkes-Barre was in a key battleground state where he hopes conservative, white working-class voters near Biden’s hometown of Scranton will boost the Republican’s chances of winning back the White House.

His comments came Saturday as Democrats prepare for their four days of caucuses National Conference It begins Monday in Chicago and will mark the party’s reception of Harris as their nominee. His replacement of Biden less than four months before the November election has reinvigorated Democrats and their coalition. It also presents a new challenge for Trump.

Trump hammered Harris on the economy, linking him to the inflation woes of the Biden administration. His latest plan against inflation Action should be taken in communist countries. Trump has said that if the federal government imposes a ban on food price hikes, it will lead to food shortages, food shortages and starvation. He asked Saturday why he and Biden aren’t working to address prices when they take office in 2021.

“One day three and a half years ago for Kamala. So why didn’t she do it? So this is day 1,305,” Trump said.

To address high prices, Trump said he would sign an executive order on his first day in office, “directing every cabinet secretary and company head to use every power we have to lower prices, but we’re going to lower them.” In a capitalist way, not in a communist way,” he said.

If Harris wins, he predicts financial ruin for the country, especially Pennsylvania. Her past opposition to frackingA commonly used oil and gas extraction process in the state. her The campaign tried to soften her up While the position on fracking says it won’t ban it, Her condition As he seeks the 2020 presidential nomination.

“Your state will be ruined anyway. He is absolutely against fracking,” Trump said.

But he veered from tearing apart the messy withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 to recording Macron’s French accent.

Trump attacked Harris’ laughter and called him “not a very good speaker” and mocked the names of CNN anchors who moderated his debate with Biden in June.

When he started thinking about Harris’ recent picture on the cover of Time magazine, he commented on the image’s resemblance to classic Hollywood icons Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor.

Things to know about 2024 elections

“I’m prettier than her,” Trump said, drawing laughter from the crowd. “I am prettier than Kamal.”

He also took issue with the way his style was commonly portrayed in news reports.

“They say he wanders. I didn’t wander. I’m very smart,” he said.

Trump’s Saturday rally will be his fifth at the arena in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County’s largest city, where he has won the past two elections. Biden bested Trump in Lackawanna County, a neighborhood where the Democrat has long promoted his working-class roots in Scranton.

On Sunday, Harris plans a bus trip that starts in Pittsburgh and stops in Rochester, a small city to the north. Trump plans to visit a nuclear fuel container plant in York on Monday. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, is expected to be in Philadelphia that day.

Some of Biden’s loyal supporters in this former industrial city of 76,000 were upset to see party leaders pressure the president to step aside.

Diane Munley, 63, says she called dozens of members of Congress to vouch for Biden. Munley eventually came around to Biden’s conclusion and is now very supportive of Harris.

“I can’t deny the excitement about this ticket right now. I’m very interested in that,” Munley said. “It didn’t happen with Joe, I couldn’t see it at the time because I was so attached to him.”

Robert A. Priddy, 64, a laborer from Shamokin, Pennsylvania, traveled to the rally Saturday to show support for Trump. He said the election is tight at this point, and his union and a close friend are trying to convince him to vote for Harris and other Democrats, but he has voted for Trump since 2016.

Bridi called Trump “a working-class guy like us.” Trump is a billionaire who built his fortune in real estate.

“He’s a fighter,” Bridi said. “I like to see closed boundaries. He doesn’t mess around. He gets right to it and takes care of business the way it should be. ___

Pro-Palestinian ‘indecisive’ movement deadlocked with top Democrats

0

Dearborn, Mich. (AP) — Among the thousands of delegates expected to gather Monday at the Democratic National Convention, just 36 will belong to “Uncertain” movement Dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

But that little core is there Excessive influence.

Anger over US support for Israel’s offensive in Gaza could create unpleasant images for conference organizers, with strong protests expected outside and possible Inside the Chicago Arena Harris will accept the nomination on Thursday.

There are top Democrats Weeks passed The meeting with “undecided” voters and their allies — including a previously unannounced sit-down between Vice President Kamala Harris and the mayor of Dearborn, Michigan — is an attempt to respond to criticism in key swing states like Michigan, which has a significant Arab-American population.

Months of meetings and phone calls between pro-Palestinian activists and the Harris campaign ended in a productive stalemate. Activists want Harris to ratify an arms embargo and permanent cease-fire on Israel. Harris supported Biden’s negotiations for a ceasefire, but rejected an arms embargo.

Reema Mohammed, one of two “undecided” delegates from Michigan, said she sees the convention as an opportunity to share her movement’s concerns with party leadership.

“This is a way for the protesters outside to share their frustration with the party,” he said.

Democratic candidate meets prominent Arab American mayor

With Biden stepping aside and Harris taking his place, there are questions about the leverage held by “undecided” voters. Democrats have seen something remarkable A surge of excitement Concerns about voter apathy seem to have subsided in key areas such as Harris’s campaign and Detroit’s large black population.

But Harris and his team still make communication with Arab American leaders a priority.

During a campaign Trip to Michigan Last week, Harris met with Abdullah Hammoud, the 34-year-old mayor of Dearborn, a Detroit suburb with the largest concentration of Arab Americans of any city in the United States. The meeting was released by a person who was not authorized to discuss it publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The person familiar with the meeting did not provide specifics, but said the focus would be on Harris’ potential policy on the Israel-Hamas conflict if elected. Hammoud declined to comment.

“Vice President Harris supports agreements for a permanent ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza,” his campaign said in a statement. “He will continue to meet with the leaders of the Palestinian, Muslim, Israeli and Jewish communities, as he has in his vice presidency.”

Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez held separate one-on-one meetings Thursday with leaders of the Arab American community and the “noncommittal” movement in metro Detroit.

“They listen, we talk,” said Osama Siplani, publisher of The Arab American News, who met with Chávez Rodriguez. “But without Harris’ public statements none of us can get votes in the community. She doesn’t need us; She can win votes by saying and doing the right thing.

According to Ciplani, Chavez Rodriguez agreed that “the killing must stop.” In response, Siplani insisted: “How? There is no plan,” he said.

Things to know about 2024 elections

Lavora Barnes, chairwoman of the Michigan Democratic Party, said the party “will continue to work toward our goal of defeating Donald Trump and the Republicans.”

“We are committed to continuing these conversations with community leaders, activists and organizations because we want to make sure everyone in the Michigan Democratic Party has a seat at the table,” Barnes said in a statement.

No agreement on arms embargo

Some on the Democratic left have called for a ban on the use of US-made weapons by Israel in a platform of policy goals to be approved during next week’s convention. But such language was not included among party executives in a draft platform released earlier this summer, and those close to Harris’ campaign are unlikely to approve its inclusion.

The Noncommittal National Movement has also requested a speaking slot at the conference for a doctor who worked on the front lines in Gaza alongside the movement’s leader. Abbas Alawi, another “undecided” delegate from Michigan and one of the movement’s founders, said they had asked for a meeting with Harris to “discuss improving the Gaza policy” in hopes of ending the unconditional flow of arms and bombs to Israel. .

The movement’s co-founders, Alavi and Laila Elabed, met briefly with the vice president before a Harris rally outside Detroit last week. They demanded a formal meeting with Harris and urged him to support an embargo on arms exports to Israel. To them, Harris seemed open to the idea of meeting.

However, shortly after news of the meeting became public, Bill Gordon, Harris’s national security adviser, reaffirmed that he did not support an arms embargo. Allawi noted Wednesday that the group had received no response from the Harris group or the DNC regarding their requests ahead of the convention.

“I hope he will not miss the opportunity to unite the party,” Alavi said.

The Trump campaign continues to hit its stride

Elsewhere in metro Detroit this week, Massad Poulos, father-in-law of Trump’s youngest daughter and now his boss Arab American OutreachHe was holding meetings with various community groups. Poulos has frequently visited Michigan with Arab Americans for Trump Chair Bishara Baba.

According to Bahba, their pitch highlights the situation in Gaza under Biden’s administration and Trump’s team’s promise to give the community a seat at the table if he wins.

“We were told by the Trump circle, which was not part of the campaign, that in exchange for our votes, we would get a seat at the table and a voice to be heard,” Bahba said.

But Trump’s apparent political opportunities in the Arab American community, or in the “non-committal” movement, may be limited by his past views and policies.

Many Arabs are angered by Trump’s ban, while in office Immigration from many Muslim-majority countries As well as their insulting comments. Trump has also criticized Biden for not being a strong enough supporter of Israel.

Speaking to an audience of Jewish supporters on Thursday, Trump portrayed the expected protesters in Chicago as anti-Semitic and sometimes used an Arabic word used by Muslims to refer to war or struggle.

“Jihad will not come to America under Trump,” he said.

But Bahba acknowledges that his and Poulos’ strategy isn’t aimed at swaying voters to support Trump — but to keep them from voting for Harris.

“If I can’t convince people to vote for Trump, it’s better to keep them at home,” Bahba said.

Want to freeze your credit after a national public data breach? Here’s how

0

I thought about freezing my credit for weeks before I did it. As a personal finance author who covers identity theft, I know it can happen Making it harder for cybercriminals Opening a new credit account in my name — but that would be difficult for me.

When you freeze your credit, you must manually freeze or “melt” it whenever you want to apply for a new credit card, car loan or mortgage.

The process of freezing your credit is not a simple one. This includes registering for individual accounts Three major US credit bureausEquifax, TransUnion and Experian and freeze your credit manually online or by phone or mail.

But there are two advantages that sold me on it. First, freezing your credit is completely free. Second, there’s peace of mind knowing you’ve neutralized a key tool in the identity thieves’ playbook.

Lock your credit and protect your sensitive data.

Why did I freeze my credit reports?

Data breaches happen more often than you think. Also, your data may have been compromised at least once. Just this year, Ticketmaster and AT&T reported data breaches that affected millions of customers. An alleged hack at background search firm National Public Data may have also compromised the personal data of 2.9 billion people, according to a new lawsuit.

Recently, I’ve noticed an increase in the amount of scam messages I’ve received on my phone and in my email inbox. Most were easy enough to sniff out, but some were well researched.

I have received various messages asking if I have ribs and offering me new job opportunities. The barrage of messages, phone calls, and emails made me think that at any moment — distracted or in a hurry to get back to my desk for my next meeting — I could fall victim to a scam that could lead to identity theft.

Freezing my credit is one of the best ways to protect your data and money — but it’s not foolproof. Fraudsters and identity thieves can access my personal information through existing accounts. However, I can minimize the damage.

How I Freeze My Credit With TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian

When freezing your credit, you must do so with each of the three major credit bureaus. That required setting up accounts on each — a process that took about 30 minutes online. In general, you’ll be asked for the same information: your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number. You must complete two-factor authentication via text or email.

TransUnion and Equifax have dedicated tabs on your dashboard to freeze your credit after you create an account. A few clicks and I’m all set.

Experian makes this option a bit harder to find. After a few clicks, I found two ways to enable Free Security Disable.

Hover and click on “Credit” on your dashboard Experian Credit Lock — Experian’s payment offer works like a credit freeze, but locks your credit report instantly, among other features. On that page, you see a free “Disable Security” option.

When you’re logged in, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Experian Credit Lock to return to the same page. All three credit bureaus will confirm your credit freeze by email.

If you don’t want to set up online accounts, you can call each credit bureau to freeze your credit. Here are the numbers for each:

  • TransUnion – 800-916-8800
  • Equifax – (888) 298-0045
  • Experian – 888-397-3742

Each bureau must freeze your credit within one business day after you request a credit freeze. When you need to freeze your credit, Experian, TransUnion and Equifax should freeze your credit within an hour. By mail, it can take up to three business days to freeze and freeze your credit.

Freezing your credit won’t solve all of your identity theft concerns

Setting up a credit freeze is very simple. But I’m not going to say that your credit freeze will be comfortable. Here are some drawbacks to consider:

You must freeze your credit each time you open a new account

If you’re thinking about applying for a new credit card, looking for your first home, or getting a new car loan, it’s a good idea to wait until after opening an account before freezing your credit.

Freezing your credit prevents cybercriminals or identity thieves from opening new credit accounts in your name. But it also stops you. To open a new credit account, you must sign in to your accounts or contact each of the three credit bureaus to temporarily freeze your credit.

A false sense of security

Freezing your credit is a good step toward protecting your identity, but it can still be stolen.

You may consider signing up for an identity theft protection service. Individual plans typically start at $7 to $15, depending on the amount of funding and identity tracking you want. With an identity theft protection program, you can monitor your credit, bank accounts, and the dark web for your or your family’s personally identifiable data, or PII.

Alternatively, you can take advantage of free tools at your disposal. Review your monthly credit card and bank statements. View your medical claim history online and your credit report. You can download your free credit report AnnualCreditReport.com.

Freeze your credit and protect your sensitive data.

It does not stop spam messages

Unfortunately, if fraudsters have your phone number or email, you won’t be able to stop them from trying to siphon money from your existing accounts.

It is best to block phone numbers and email addresses from unauthorized senders every time you receive a strange message. Also, take some time to read messages carefully before clicking on a link.

This does not put an end to new loan offers

Freezing your credit will not remove spam mail and reserved offers you receive. Credit freezes are meant to prevent hard inquiries on your credit, such as lease applications or student loan applications. You can still expect offers from credit card companies, insurance carriers, and more.

Financial institutions and debt collectors with whom you already have a relationship can also check your credit. In special circumstances, the federal, state and local government may also do so.

Credit monitoring companies like Credit Karma and Credit Sesame can give you your latest credit score.

You still need good password hygiene

Even if your credit is frozen, you should still practice good password hygiene. Make sure you don’t use the same login information on multiple sites — using the same login is a common tactic of cybercriminals.

If keeping track of your passwords is overwhelming, consider paying for a password manager.

It does not protect your bank account information

Even if it freezes your credit, it’s your responsibility to protect your bank account information from fraudsters.

If you accidentally provide any account numbers or login information to cybercriminals, contact your bank immediately and change your password.

In the end, I’m glad my credit stopped

There are pros and cons to freezing your debt. But with no plans to open a new account anytime soon, it was worth it to me. I also feel safe after doing that. It’s nice to know that I’ve thrown a wrench in any cybercriminal’s scheme.

Of course, the spam messages keep coming. But I’m good at being the gatekeeper of my financial accounts. I am in the habit of checking my bank and credit card statements regularly.

NBC Sports Bay Area & California – Brandon Ayuck wants final year adjustment in 49ers contract offer

Programming Note: Watch “49ers Training Camp Live” with Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan from Santa Clara today at 3 p.m. NBC Sports app. Watch the show later YouTube And Facebook.

The last hurdle for Brandon Ayuk and the 49ers to agree to a lucrative contract extension appears to be the final, non-guaranteed year of a potential contract.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported Friday Aiyuk and the 49ers are on the same page regarding the first three years of the proposed contract, but the star wide receiver wants to opt out of the non-guaranteed fourth year.

“The 49ers feel they’ve already caved enough and caved in more than they wanted, Steelers Depot) “They’ve gone up significantly from their offer in the spring. My report is that they’ve agreed to a lot in the first three years of the contract, which is usually the hardest part. That’s the guarantee, the cash flow, the APY in the first two years, the average per year and Aiyuk wants … in the final year of the contract. A fix, it’s not guaranteed.

“That year isn’t guaranteed, and we saw a lot of big receivers and agents last year put up big numbers for the year. That doesn’t look right, and that’s what needs to be more meaningful adjustment. That year, but one thing the 49ers can walk away from is 49ers saying, ‘We’re not going to make a move, and let him go.’ We are not going to trade because we feel we can still get this deal done.’ “

Garafolo announced Tuesday that Aiyuk and the 49ers had exchanged contract offers that were in range, and that the 26-year-old wideout was waiting for San Francisco to decide on a final item.

Based on Garafolo’s latest report Friday, the roadblock to the 49ers and Aiyuk reaching an agreement dates back to last year.

General manager John Lynch appeared on KNBR 680 Friday morning and was asked why contract discussions with Ayuk dragged on for so long.

“I wish I knew,” Lynch said KNBR’s “Murph & Marcus” program. “I wish I knew.”

Lynch also clarified that the sides are trying to find a solution to the situation.

“It’s been a long, hard, hard process, a hard journey,” Lynch told Brian Murphy and Marcus Boucher. “We started this early and for whatever reason didn’t make it across the finish line. That was frustrating. But communication with Brandon and his agent is still good and we’re trying to find a solution.

“I’m always optimistic. I’m an optimistic person by nature, so I’m always optimistic that we’ll get there and get there soon. I can tell you we feel the urgency to get him. The season is getting closer.”

While the 49ers reportedly have a trade structure with the Pittsburgh Steelers to send Ayuk to the Steel City, it’s clear their preference is to do something with the former first-round draft pick to keep him in San Francisco.

If the 49ers and Aiyuk can find common ground on the back-end of the proposed deal, the situation could finally be resolved.

‘X-Men ’97’ creator fired amid botched internal investigation

Five months after Marvel Studios was fired X-Men ’97 Creator Beau DiMaio said Thursday that the writer won’t be credited on the second season of the hit Disney+ show for mysterious reasons, which he finished work on before he left. DeMayo made the request on social media, saying it was part of a “complicated pattern” he endured while working at Marvel.

Marvel quickly backtracked, and in a statement The Hollywood ReporterHe gave insight into his firing, saying it came after an internal investigation revealed “tremendous” findings.

“The above is #XMen fan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June. On June 13th, #Marvel sent me a letter saying they removed my Season 2 credits because of the post,” DiMaio wrote on X Thursday.

DiMaio spent several years at Marvel working on a long-gestating draft knife feature and TV show Moon NightAnd added: “Unfortunately, this is just the latest in a series of problems I’ve experienced while working on #XMen97 and #Blade.”

Marvel responded by saying that DeMayo’s behavior was the reason for his firing and the loss of his credits.

DeMayo was an avid social media user during his tenure at Marvel X-Men Even running small notes and shirtless photos and non-obvious fan accounts. All of this led to LGBTQ publishing outside to announce him”The sexy, gay Marvel writer & showrunner needs to know.”

On the surface, the idea that Marvel would strip DeMaio of credit because of one social media post is stretching credibility, as outside observers note that the gay pride illustration is similar to many of his posts while working at Marvel. And fired Marvel executive Victoria Alonso retained credits from projects she previously worked on following her exit in 2023. But revelations from an internal investigation point to deeper reasons.

Despite the bad press surrounding DiMayo’s firing, X-Men ’97 It was a huge hit with audiences and critics, earning Marvel Studios its first perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and earning DeMayo an Emmy nomination for the episode “Remember It.” Marvel teased season two at T23, while the studio tapped Matthew Chauncey to write season three following DiMayo’s firing.

Until now, DiMayo has remained largely mum on his firing from Marvel, albeit in recent days He did Note that he unsuccessfully tried to get a seat at the Emmys from the studio.

In his initial X post on Thursday, DeMayo concluded: “I have more to say soon but I need to take a step back from social media. Wait” he said.

But after the initial publication of this article, he responded to Marvel’s statement, to write“The truth will come out. After their Disney Plus debacle, Marvel likes to misrepresent alleged contract violations in tweets. This is unfortunate, but not surprising. Wait” he said.
