PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray has died, a day after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, PGA Tour officials said.
No cause of death was listed. He is 30 years old.
“We are devastated – and heartbroken to share – to learn that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. In a statement on Saturday.
Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, withdrew from Friday’s second round with two holes to play, citing an illness.
Earlier this year, Murray ended a six-and-a-half-year winless drought against former PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and South Korea’s Ahn Pyeong-Hun at the Sony Open, which he admits he struggled with. Mental health and physical issues.

Murray plays his shot from the 17th tee during the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialea Country Club on January 14, 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray captured three IMG Junior World titles in 2006, ’07, and ’08 and was considered one of the best junior players in the world. At 16, he became the second-youngest man to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, according to the PGA Tour, and at 19, he played in the 2013 US Open. He won the 2017 Barbazol Championship at the age of 23.
“Grayson was absolutely brilliant. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend,” his caddie Jay Green said in a statement. Brentley Romine of the Golf Channel. “He would literally do anything for anyone. He has a great family and my heart goes out to them. We will all miss him deeply.
In a statement to CNN, Murray’s agent Kevin Canning said, “We are saddened and saddened to learn of Grayson Murray’s sudden passing. Grayson has been a longtime member of the GSE family, and hearing the news this morning came as a shock to all of us.
And in an X post, former Masters winner Bubba Watson said he was “deeply saddened” to learn of Grayson’s death.
“I hugged you at the Masters and told you how proud I was of you,” he recalled. “Thank you for knowing you. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this difficult time. He will be missed.
Murray has been vocal about some of his struggles in his golf career, including alcohol. He spent some time in rehab Interview with PGAAnd struggled with anxiety.
“The news really hasn’t sunk in yet,” said world No. 1 Scotty Scheffler after his third round at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Saturday.
“I am thinking about his family and praying hard for all of them,” he told reporters. “I can’t imagine what a difficult time this has been. I’ve gotten to know Grayson better over the last six months, and yes, there really isn’t a way to put into words how sad and sad it is, but I’m thinking of his family.
2012 US Open winner Webb Simpson also paid tribute to Murray on Saturday, saying the two had a “long history” together.
“I think I first met Grayson at my home club when he was eight, maybe nine years old. He was the first winner of the Webb Simpson Challenge Junior tournament, which I’ve had for 14 years,” Simpson told reporters.
“So when you hear news like that on the phone, you don’t think it’s real at first, you know, you hear the emotion coming from our swing coach and you realize it’s real.
“But I know his mom was with him during the Wells Fargo Championship, and I think they hung out together, and I loved those two days we had together. So I’m very grateful to have spent some time with him before today’s bad news.

The Polar Radiant Energy in the Far Infrared Experiment, or PREFIRE, mission is sending two research satellites — shown here in an artist’s impression — to study how much heat is lost to space from Earth’s polar regions.
NASA has launched the first of two research satellites to measure how much heat is being lost to space from the Arctic and Antarctica.
A shoebox-sized satellite Thrown away on Saturday at 7:42 p.m. local time (3:42 a.m. ET) on the Rocket Lab Electron rocket from the Rocket Lab’s launch complex in Mahia, New Zealand. The company confirmed the successful launch of the satellite at 8:35 p.m. local time (4:35 a.m. ET).
The climate science mission, called Polar Radiant Energy in the Far Infrared Experiment, or PREFIRE, aims to improve scientists’ understanding of how water vapor, clouds and other components of Earth’s atmosphere trap heat and prevent it from radiating into space.
Rocket Lab
Technicians integrated PREFIRE into the Rocket Lab Electron rocket payload fairing at the company’s facility in New Zealand on Wednesday.
The data collected will inform climate models and lead to better predictions of how a climate crisis will affect sea levels, weather, snow and ice. NASA said.
Earth absorbs more energy from the sun in tropical regions. Weather and ocean currents move that heat energy toward the poles, where the heat spreads upward into space. Much of that heat is in far-infrared wavelengths and has not been systematically measured before, NASA added.
PREFIRE is composed of two cubesats equipped with specialized miniature heat sensors. The launch date of the second satellite will be announced soon after the launch of the first satellite, NASA said.
Once they’re both launched, the two satellites will be in asynchronous polar orbits — passing over a specific location at different times and looking at the same area within hours.
Doing so should allow satellites to collect data on events that take place on shorter time scales and require more frequent measurements — such as how the amount of cloud cover affects Earth’s temperature.
Friday Afternoon: Ugh, that’s too bad. Warner Bros.’ Anger4 days is the lowest opening for a Memorial Day movie in 41 years $31M-$35M. How is that sacred? If the George Miller-directed prequel comes in on the low end, the last time a No. 1 movie or a Memorial Day opening title had a lower 4-day gross was in 1983. Return of the Jedi Earned $30.5M – a lot of money back then.

SpaceX is the first in a double-header
Wednesday night marks the first of another SpaceX launch double-header.
As the Falcon 9 rocket carried a batch of Starlink satellites into orbit, the SpaceX team announced plans to launch another batch — within 24-hours.
On Thursday evening, another batch of Starlink satellites will be launched from the Space Coast.
As of Thursday morning, SpaceX confirmed it is targeting a 6:45pm EDT launch from Kennedy Space Center’s Pad 39A. However, it was later announced that the release would be moved to the end of the window at 10:13 pm EDT.
As of Wednesday’s launch, the Falcon 9 rocket was expected to travel on a southeast trajectory and land aboard a drone in the Atlantic Ocean.
Starliner launch update
Space Coast saw nearly three launch weeks. NASA issued a statement saying the launch of Starliner’s Crewed Flight Test has been further delayed, abandoning the attempt on Saturday, May 25. The next launch attempt is now scheduled for 12:25 pm EDT, Saturday, June 1. This will give teams more time to ensure the spacecraft is ready for launch.
The last attempt to launch on May 6 was scrapped after the Atlas V rocket was found to have a faulty oxygen valve. ULA crews worked to replace the oxygen valve, but were further delayed after helium was discovered leaking from a thruster in the spacecraft’s service module — a disposable module that houses the thrusters that sits beneath the spacecraft.
“It is important that we take our time to understand all the complexities of each issue, including the redundant capabilities of the Starliner propulsion system and the impact on our interim human evaluation certification. We will begin Butch and Suni on this test mission. The teams’ progress and flight rationale have been reviewed by the community in the upcoming Delta Agency Flight Test Readiness Review. ” Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, was quoted as saying in a press release.

Jaylen Brown tied his playoff career high with 40 points, five rebounds and two assists to lead the Boston Celtics to a 126-110 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. Brown, Derrick White (23) and Jayson Tatum (23) scored 86 of Boston’s 126 points as the Celtics now lead the series 2-0.
Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 28 points, five rebounds and two assists, and Tyrus Halliburton left in the fourth quarter with a sore left leg after 28 minutes of action. Indiana shot 52.4 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Boston, which shot 53.4 percent and 40.5 percent from 3.
The Pacers now return to Indiana without a series win, although they started the last round against the New York Knicks in a two-game hole before winning the series in seven games.
Boston has lost just two games during these playoffs, and no streak has lasted past five games.
Game 3 at Indiana is Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Boston taps health
The Celtics are often viewed as a neat team, but their size and physicality took a toll in Game 2. They tallied 13 offensive rebounds, including 10 in the first half. They outscored the Pacers 54-34 in the paint and 18-13 in second-chance points.
Knack in Boston has long spent as much time as the team on the perimeter, sometimes at the expense of pressuring the rim, but the Celtics mostly played inside-out in this one. In this series, they should. Celtic guards are great. Their wings are large.
They have a significant muscle advantage at many positions in the series, especially on the perimeter. They capitalized on that in Game 2. Brown went down again and again. Jrue Holiday and White, protected by Indiana’s small backcourt, were both able to create big, efficient stat lines.
With Brown at the helm, the Celtics can get anywhere on the court they want. Boston ran away with Game 2 as the Pacers couldn’t get any stops.
The Pacers will need to do a better job of providing resistance against the physicality of the Celtics to make this a series in Indiana. Halliburton’s injury status is also a big factor. – Jay King, Celtics beat writer
The Celtics control the chaos
The Pacers offense was chaotic, forcing the Celtics defense to make countless reads and decisions throughout the night. It took some time for Boston to adjust, but the Celtics seemed to have control over the chaos in Game 2.
Halliburton’s injury took the wind out of Indiana’s sails, but the Celtics rarely seemed to fight back to keep the Pacers running.
Brown had electric scoring off the ball, but it was the playmaking of Holiday and White that kept Boston’s offense flowing when Brown wasn’t making smart shots. As the series continues, it’s becoming clear that Boston can rely on its guards to keep the offense going all night long.
The second unit was no slouch defensively as Oshe Brissett gave some solid minutes to the injured Luke Cornett. If Boston’s bench can hold up well, the Celtics will be in great shape heading back to Indianapolis. – Jared Weiss, Celtics beat writer
Indiana falls prey to the usual shortcomings
Going up against the league’s best team, the Pacers knew they had to be nearly perfect to somehow upset the Celtics and advance to the NBA Finals. On Thursday, the Pacers were far from perfect and made mistakes that usually don’t occur in the postseason.
In the first half, the Celtics grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and scored 12 second-chance points. In the third quarter, the Pacers failed to match up on defense several times and gave up easy conversion buckets.
In the fourth quarter, TJ McConnell rocketed a pass to Isaiah Jackson from five feet out, and the ball flew into the air for a Celtics steal. The Celtics deployed seldom-used forward Brissett as a center and he scored 15 points in nine minutes played as the Pacers struggled to find an answer to an unusual small-ball appearance.
But while all of those things were serious problems in Game 2, they paled in comparison to Halliburton’s exit from the game. If Halliburton re-aggravates the left hamstring injury that forced him to miss 10 games in mid-January, the Pacers are going to struggle to compete with the Celtics in this series. – Eric Nehm, senior NBA writer
Myles Turner threw up his hands in frustration. The Pacers center couldn’t believe he was whistled for his third foul with 4:11 left in the second quarter.
When Turner and Celtics center Al Horford collided near the baseline, Turner begged Indiana coach Rick Carlisle to challenge what appeared to be a questionable call.
When Turner finally sat on the sideline, his frustration with his teammates and assistant coaches was written all over his face.
The moment heralded a performance Turner would like to forget. After scoring 18 of his 23 points in the first half of Game 1, he went scoreless in the first half of Game 2.
Turner finally got on the board midway through the third quarter with a turnaround jumper that cut Boston’s lead to four points, but Indiana couldn’t overcome Turner’s rare off night in these playoffs.
Turner entered Thursday averaging 17.9 points. He finished Game 2 with eight points and four turnovers in 24 minutes.
Of all the players on the pacers’ list, Turner is the last to be reminded of just how great this run has been. As the team’s longest-tenured player, Turner took three years to get back to the playoffs, and he advanced past the first round until his sixth playoff appearance this season.
If the Pacers hope to avoid falling into an 0-3 hole, he’ll need to play much better in Game 3, especially since Halliburton is still concerned about the sore left foot that forced him out of Thursday’s game. — James Boyd, staff writer

The European Space Agency (ESA) is releasing five new images from the Euclid Space Telescope today (May 23). And if the collection of previous films is anything to go by – space fans should be in for an absolute treat.
“Five new portraits of our universe were captured during Euclid’s early observational phase, each revealing exciting new science.” ESA officials said in a statement. “Euclid’s ability to unravel the mysteries of the universe is something you won’t want to miss.”
The new images will be revealed at 5:00 am EDT (1200 CEST) and will be accompanied by an incredible 10 scientific papers. You can watch the data release live on ESA YouTube channel.
Related: Euclid’s ‘dark universe’ telescope becomes icy from a million miles away
As an appetizer for this event, we can remind ourselves of the incredible cosmic images this mission has provided so far.
Euclid’s story so far
Launching on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida on July 1, 2023, Euclid is a wide-angle space telescope with a 600-megapixel camera that monitors the universe in visible light, the near-infrared spectrum, and a photometer. Used to determine the redshift of galaxies. Knowing the redshift allows scientists to figure out how fast distant galaxies are moving away from our planet.
Euclid’s primary aim was to explore two mysterious components of the universe: dark energy and dark matter. These phenomena are collectively known as the “dark universe”.
Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, Skywatch events and more!
Dark energy is the name given to any force that accelerates the expansion of the universe. Dark matter, on the other hand, is a form of matter that is effectively invisible because it does not interact with light. Scientists know that this is not the “ordinary” matter made up of electrons, protons, and neutrons that make up stars, planets, moons, and our bodies. Its existence can only be known through interactions with thematic gravity, which can affect normal matter and light. However, to be clear, neither dark matter nor dark energy is necessarily made of matter. Both may be made of several substances – or, they may each be made of the same substance.
The thing is, we simply don’t know.
Nevertheless, dark energy accounts for about 68% of the universe’s energy and matter budget, while dark matter accounts for about 27%. That means the dark universe is 95% of the matter in the universe and the stuff we actually understand is only 5%.
Thus, Euclid clearly has his work cut out for him, called the “dark-universe detective” because of his particular set of tools. But sure enough, the first official images of the space telescope released on November 7, 2023, after its first four months in space, show it’s fit for duty.
In the background are the 1,000 galaxies belonging to the Perseus cluster and more than 100,000 additional galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars in the Euclid picture. (Image credit: ESA/Euclid/Euclid Consortium/NASA, image processing by J.-C. Cuillandre (CEA Paris-Saclay), G. Anselmi)
Above is one of the first images seen by the public from Euclid’s telescope. This is a snapshot showing 1,000 galaxies, all belonging to the Perseus cluster. Located about 240 million light-years from Earth, the cluster is one of the largest structures in the known universe.
Mapping galaxies in such large volumes is crucial to understanding how dark matter is distributed and how this distribution has affected the evolution of the universe.
Beyond the wealth of Perseus cluster galaxies, the image showed another 100,000 distant galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars. Observations of such large numbers of distant galaxies were crucial for Euclid to unravel how dark energy moves faster and faster by accelerating the expansion of space between these galaxies.
The “hidden galaxy” seen by Euclid is IC 342 (Image credit: ESA/Euclid/Euclid Consortium/NASA, image processing by J.-C. Cuillandre (CEA Paris-Saclay), G. Anselmi)
Just because Euclid has its eyes on vast swaths of galaxies doesn’t mean it can’t draw images of single galaxies.
Another of the first Euclid images we should look to for a tool to uncover the dark elements of the universe was somewhat ironic. Because it identified the galaxy IC 342, also known as the “Hidden Galaxy”.
The galaxy is located about 11 million light-years from Earth and is difficult to image because it lies behind the Milky Way’s bright dusty disk. However, that didn’t stop Euclid from capturing an incredible image of this once hidden spiral galaxy. To do this, the space telescope used its near-infrared instrument because the gas and dust of the Milky Way’s disk are less efficient at absorbing infrared light compared to other wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation.

To unravel the mysteries of the dark universe and create a detailed 3D map of the universe, Euclid needed to see galaxies 10 billion light-years away, and the 13.8-billion-year-old universe less than 4. Billions of years after the Big Bang.
These galaxies do not have the neat, spiral-like structures of the Milky Way or the Obscured Galaxy. Most galaxies in the early universe were poorly shaped irregular galaxies that served as building blocks for larger galaxies.
To prepare for observing these distant and early galaxies, Euclid’s first images included a view of the local irregular galaxy NGC 6822, located 1.6 million light-years from Earth.

Although they provide us with spectacularly bright images, Euclid did not focus solely on galaxies during his work.
As the image of NGC 6397 above demonstrates, the space telescope is also looking at globular clusters. And, thankfully, globular clusters are beautiful. They are collections of hundreds of thousands of stars bound together by gravity, and are some of the oldest structures in the known universe.
NGC 6397 is the second closest globular cluster to Earth at a distance of 7,800 light-years. Globular clusters such as NGC 6397 orbit the disk of the Milky Way, and such structures have been observed in the evolution of our galaxy, or at least in other galaxies.
Euclid excels in the study of globular clusters because, unlike other telescopes, it has a field of view wide enough to capture entire globular clusters in one image, as it did for NGC 6397.

Much of Euclid’s work focused on the unknown, but the last image in the first volume of Euclid’s publications actually showed the familiar celestial body in an entirely new light. A dark cosmic detective has managed to produce an amazingly detailed view of the Horsehead Nebula, also known as Barnard 33.
Located about 1,380 light-years from Earth and east of Orion’s Belt, the Horsehead Nebula is one of the closest star-forming gas and dust clouds to the Solar System. It is also very beautiful to look at.
Although a wealth of telescopes have imaged the Horseshoe Nebula in the past, none have captured this region of the Orion molecular cloud with such a wide and sharp view. What is even more astonishing about this picture is that it took Euclid an hour of observation time to create it. No wonder professional and amateur astronomers and space enthusiasts alike are excited for the upcoming May 23 data release.
To that end, as breathtaking as the images described above are, while shedding a curious light on a dark universe, there’s a good chance that even better ones are to come as Euclid begins to meet its mission objectives.
We’ll have to wait until early Jupiter to see what the next crop of Euclid images has to offer and see how this dark cosmic detective begins to live up to its lofty mission expectations after nearly a year in space. But then again, if its past is any indication of its future, it’s hard to imagine anything but informative beauty from these films.
