Susan Macumber’s middle name gets first billing in her second career.
Treasa’s Boutique, a new consignment store opening this week in Windsor, offers a wide selection of clothing for women, children and teens.
Macumber says she decided to open her shop when she needed a change from her longtime career as a counsellor.
“I wasn’t ready to retire, but my body needed a break from what I was doing,” she said. “I wanted to stay busy, but I also wanted to do something completely different.”
A few months ago, she learned of another consignment shop that was for sale and after giving it some thought, decided she wanted to open her own. When it came time to name her store, she picked her second name.
Macumber says she has put a lot of hours into shopping, stocking and decorating the store. She’s found a little bit of everything — from fancy dress and gala wear to office and casual clothes; bras, bathing suits, jewelry, shoes and accessories.
The shop offers something for everyone, sizes to fit women and children through teens.
“I started going through my closets,” she said. “Friends and family gave me some of their clothes. Then I started shopping around; pretty soon, things started to snowball.”
Macumber added that she wants to offer a stylish, but casual family atmosphere, where people feel comfortable browsing and trying on clothing. The dressing rooms are deliberately larger to avoid those awkward moments of trying to pull pants up with no room to turn around.
The idea is that people can come and try on clothes with friends and family, and Macumber offers a comfortable waiting area where people can sit and have a cup of coffee or a cool drink. She offers a bright, shabby chic shop with antiques tables alongside a play area for children to colour and play while shoppers browse.
“It’s unique, I have a bit of everything,” she said. “It’s bright, clean, and affordable. I want my customers to feel welcome while they are here and when they leave, I want them to tell their friends about us.”
Treasa’s Boutique is opening July 20 at 93 Gerrish St., Windsor. She will be open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The hours may change over the summer.
