DIGBY, N.S. – The emergency department at Digby General Hospital will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 and reopen Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 8:00 a.m. This is due to physician availability, the Nova Scotia Health Authority says.
The department had also closed at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb 19 and reopened Tuesday. Feb. 20 at 8 a.m. for the same listed reason.
If you have an emergency, the health authority says to call 911 or visit the nearest emergency department. For non-emergency health advice from a registered nurse call 811. The Mental Health Crisis Line operates 24/7 at 1-888-429-8167.
There were also many closures of the department last week. Asked about it at the time, Fraser Mooney, a spokesperson with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, had said on Feb. 15, "These have been unexpected closures. Meaning, we had someone scheduled to work but for unexpected reasons, they were unable to do so. Since this is related to the individual circumstances of a physician, I am not really able to provide more information in order to protect privacy and confidentiality.
"But we have said before in regards to emergency department staffing for both nurses and physicians, we are often just a sick call away from having to look at all options, such as closing the department," he said.
