Beauti-Tone is taking a turn for the dramatic with the release of its Simon Chang 2019-20 Trend Colour Collection. Made up of 24 hues, some traditional, some contemporary and some that are downright edgy, this collection features many shades that are even deeper, richer and more intense than on previous Beauti-Tone trend colour cards.
“Much like the way we Canadians are embracing our individuality and flexing our muscles when it comes to our independence, this colour collection sets the tone for being different and setting yourself apart. Out of the ordinary is the new normal,” says Bev Bell, creative director, Beauti-Tone Paint and Home Products Division, Home Hardware Stores Limited.
Canadians are embracing luscious, saturated colours, experimenting more and finding joy and excitement when it all works well. “Nothing helps the psyche more than to add a bit of edginess, and to love the result,” adds Bell.
While many of the colours can be used to paint an entire room, others, like Beauti-Tone’s Colour of the Year, Tropic of Conversation, are fun to play with, either as an accent wall, on furniture pieces and interior doors, or hidden spots like inside closets or drawers. “This bold colour choice is an homage to our positively powerful state of mind,” says Bell.
“Canadians are feeling “take charge,” not “take cover.” We are not afraid to stand up and stand out. In fact, we are reveling in it. Setting the stage, Tropic of Conversation is full of warmth, joy and positive energy. This vibrant orange hue is easy to engage with.
“I just love this colour because it is saturated in positivity,” enthuses Bell. Not intended to stand alone, it is a very social colour, beautiful to pair with softer or muted tones for maximum impact. “Using vibrant colours in the home can seem risky, but where’s the fun in playing it safe? Imagine how fabulous Tropic of Conversation would look with a soft grey or how drop-dead gorgeous it becomes against a pure white. I like to think of it as beautiful chaos,” adds Bell.
This is the sixth colourful collaboration between Canadian style icon Simon Chang and the design experts at Beauti-Tone. “Finding influence from the runway and taking inspiration from decor trends such as natural wood, classic whites, luxe high-sheen fabrics and metal finishes,” says Simon Chang, “we created a collection of fashion-forward hues that are approachable, full of character, and meant to expand your comfort zone.”
While working with deep rich shades may cause some apprehensive, there’s nothing to fear. “What is fabulous about even the most dramatic of these colours is that they take us to that perfect place just within reach of our comfort zone. What could be more Canadian?” adds Bell.
Wherever your decorating passion lays, modern and playful, or casual and calm, there are colours in this collection to strike your fancy and get your creative juices flowing,” says Chang. “And, whatever direction you choose, just make sure you’re having fun.”
