Elon Musk confirms decision to change X’s blocking feature

X reportedly plans to change its blogging feature in the near future, allowing users to see public posts from people they’ve blocked.

The news was announced by Nima Ovji, a web developer, on Monday afternoon.

“BREAKING: X is going to remove the current block button, which means if the account is public, their posts will be visible to blocked users!” Ovji wrote.

X owner Elon Musk confirmed the news in a reply to OVG, where he confirmed the feature change.

“It’s been too long,” Tesla, Inc. said. said the CEO. “The blocking function will prevent that account from engaging in public posting, but not viewing[s].”

Musk’s post was met with mostly negative reactions. Responding to Musk, Ovji said he thought the decision was a “good move.”

“The block button for public accounts is a stupid feature because everyone can see posts from their browsers’ incognito mode,” he reasoned.

Hundreds of X users voiced their concerns over the move, with most commenters pointing to the issue of harassment on the platform.

“Oh, I’m not a fan of this,” wrote Jeremy Clark, a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute. “It’s very easy for bad actors to take a screenshot and trick unblocked followers into harassing an account.”

“With all due respect, I think it’s a bad idea,” replied rapper Jubi. “There are many reasons why someone might not want someone to easily see all of their public posts. There are some bad actors on social media, unfortunately.”
