Down 1-0 to the senior girls from Annapolis West Education Centre, the Digby Regional girls were awarded a direct kick with barely five minutes left in the game.
Thomas asked for the required ten yards, then struck the ball over the heads of the four girls in the Annapolis wall and under the crossbar out of reach of the AWEC keeper to tie the game.
After three straight losses to open the season, the Digby girls erupted in celebration at the final whistle.
The two teams had several chances in the first but strong defence on both sides kept it nothing nothing into the second half.
Annapolis had the first chance when they were awarded a penalty shot for a rough Digby tackle in the 18-yard box.
Digby keeper Addie Hersey stopped the penalty shot but the rebound went straight back to the rushing kicker. The Annapolis player chipped the ball too high bouncing it off the crossbar.
Hersey finally reeled that one in so the Digby fans, watching in the rain, were able to breathe again.
AWEC finally scored off a corner kick – the Digby defense managed to get to the ball first but failed to clear the ball and an Annapolis attacker knocked it home.
The Digby Senior girls are scheduled to play an exhibition game at home against South Colchester on Oct. 2 but the impending rain could change that plan.
They are in Annapolis on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and host Middleton at the DRHS field on Oct. 7.
