The Digby Senior Boys beat Middleton 4-2 in high school soccer action Friday in Digby.

The Mariners ran away with the game in the first half with a goal from Bryceon Wade and two from Nathan Janson.

Janson set up Wade’s goal with a sweet through ball, then got Digby’s second on on a penalty kick. Jansons’s second came off a great pass from Ryan Doucette.

Middleton came out of the halftime break a more organized and determined team.

Pressure early in the second gave Middleton’s Jared McGuirk time to launch a long high chip – Digby goalie Myles Creighton backpedalled hard but couldn’t get enough of a hand on the shot. Middleton on the scoreboard and within 2.

Digby came right back however. Riley Connelly broke in alone on the Middleton keeper and knocked the ball past him to make it 4-1.

Creighton was forced to make several more tough saves in the second and the referee blew down another play just as Middleton was about to score.

Continued pressure on the Digby net forced an error from Creighton who picked up a ball with his hands just outside the 18-yard box.

The Middleton player made no mistake with a well-placed direct kick over the Digby line; 4-2 with less than five minutes to play.

Digby’s senior and junior girls play away on Monday, Sept. 30; the junior boys play away Tuesday; the junior girls host Middleton on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.; the senior boys are away that day; and the junior boys host Middleton on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
