Soccer playoffs - Digby U14 girls wins spot at provincials – U18 boys lose first two


DIGBY - The Digby Tigers U14 girls have won a spot at soccer provincials.

The Digby girls won both their playoff games in shoot outs Aug. 27 in Greenwood.

They tied Kingston/ Greenwood 1-1 in the morning with Sarah Roach scoring for Digby in regulation time.

Molly MacNaughton, Jasmine Doucette and Stacey Andrews scored in the shoot out.

Digby met Annapolis in the playoff final that afternoon.

The game was scoreless at the end of regulation and Sarah Roach, Stacey Andrews and Kassidy Stark scored for Digby in the shoot out.

The U14 girls will play provincials in the Highland Region (north eastern mainland including Pictou, New Glasgow, Antigonish, Guysborough and Sherbrooke) Sept. 10 and 11.

U18 Boys

The U18 boys meanwhile lost both of their games Aug. 27 on the first day of provincials in Bridgewater.

The Digby boys fell behind 1-0 early to Colchester County Riders and couldn’t tie it up.

Colchester added another late in the game to make it 2-0.

East Hants also jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Digby that afternoon. The Digby boys did tie this game up, but then East Hants slowly widened the gap till it was 6-2 at the final whistle.

The Digby U18 team lost 5-3 in their final round robin game against Halifax on Aug. 28.
