Digby Junior Boys District Champions

The Digby junior boys’ basketball team is headed to the Regional Championships after winning the Annapolis and Digby District Championship 66-62 against the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy Royals in Annapolis on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Mariners won their opening game 56-41 over Middleton with Daniel Ford scoring 13 points, Tyrice Miller and Matthew Hakim finishing with 12 points each.

ARRA advanced to the championship game with a 59-48 victory against St. Mary’s Bay Academy who finished fourth after a 50-43 loss to Middleton in the consolation match.

Both Digby and ARRA played a close first half. They exchanged the lead several times before the Mariners edged out the Royals 31-30 at the half.

In an exciting and close second half, Digby maintained their slim advantage edging out the Royals for the win.

Daniel Ford netted 22, Matthew Hakim scored 21 and Tyrice Miller chipped in 13.

The Mariners will travel to Lunenburg for the Regional Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

In junior girls’ play in Digby, the Lady Mariners lost 43-35 to Annapolis in the opening game with Taylor Robinson netting 17 in the loss.

Middleton defeated Islands 48-14 in the second match.

The Lady Mariners settled for third place defeating the Island Clippers 45-20. Breanne Lewis scored a game high 10 points for Digby.

Middleton swept the District Championship with a 56-14 victory over ARRA.
