DIGBY, N.S- Phil Carty is bringing all he has to the table at the Canadian Arm Wrestling Championships later this month in Laval Quebec.
“I enjoy the competition. I try and go in pretty confident and bring all that I have to the table.”
The Digby man has been arm wrestling professionally for the last six years. This will be the fifth national championship Carty is taking part in. He won second place at the provincial championship in May.
“I find it rewarding, it’s a great one on one series.”
Carty usually trains once a week to prepare for the competition. He arm wrestles with both his right and left hands.
The competition in Quebec will have 400 or more competitors.
“The more the merrier. I try and stay on the table as much as I can,” he said.
Carty has travelled to Halifax, Saskatoon, Vancouver and P.E.I. for previous championships.
On Saturday June 30 he will compete in the Masters Class. This bracket is for competitors over the age of 40. Then, on Sunday July 1 he competes in the Senior Class. This class is for all ages, competing based on weight.
“It’s tough competing two days in a row. It gets tiring, but I enjoy the competition.”
Carty would like to thank his sponsors and future sponsors for helping him take part in events like this.
“The whole town seems to back me with this and I really appreciate it.”
