Clare captures DRHS invitational tourney

DIGBY - A strong Clare team won the two-day Sou’wester Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday at Digby Regional High School.

Clare, which captured B division, downed Forest Heights, the division A winner, in two sets in the championship game.

Eight schools took part in the tournament, playing in two divisions.

Forest Heights, a high school just outside Chester, disposed of host DRHS Mariners 25-16 and 25-19 shortly before the final. It was the second match between the two schools, both playing in division A.

The Mariners began their tournament Friday with a win over Drumlin Heights, but then suffered their first loss in the evening match with Forest Heights.

On Saturday, the Mariners had wins over Annapolis and North Queens, before again running into the Forest Heights squad.

Also in division B with Clare were St. Mary’s Bay Academy and Liverpool.
