The Digby Ravens Bantam C team are headed to provincials.
They beat the Bridgewater Hawks in overtime, twice, to win a spot at the five-team provincial tournament in Chebucto on March 22-24.
The Digby Bantams beat Bridgewater 6-5 on Friday, March 1 at the Digby arena. Noah Titus scored the winning goal in overtime.
Bridgewater protested that game on the grounds the game was held under the wrong set of rules.
Digby again beat the Hawks 4-3 Saturday, March 2 again in Digby. This time Riley LeBlanc had the OT winner.
Digby coach Chad Dorey says they later found out they had used the correct rules the first time.
The Bantams had a 13-3-2 regular season record to put them top of the league by six points.
The Atoms and Peewee brought home silver medals from their league championship tournaments.
The Digby Peewees hadn’t lost a game all season going into the championship game against Middleton.
Middleton, playing at home and hungry for revenge, came out on top 4-2 on Sunday, March 3.
Digby had met Middleton several times this year and Digby coach Wes Trimper says although Digby always earned the win, they were all “squeakers”.
“At their tournament they gave us some real good competition and I think we only just beat them by one,” he says. “At our tournament in February, we played them in the final. They were ahead by three in the second or third and we came back to win.”
Trimper says Middleton told him this weekend, they weren’t interested in the gold medal.
“They just wanted to beat Digby,”
says Trimper. “The boys had a great season and they played great this weekend. Middleton just wanted it more.”
