Creighton climbs 10 places at NS Open

KINGSTON - Myles Creighton of Digby climbed the leaderboard Thursday at the Nova Scotia men’s open championship at Paragon Golf and Country Club, firing a plus-1 round of 72 to move into a tie for ninth with Steven Ward of Ken-Wo.

His card was marred on the front by a double bogey on the third hole, but he bounced back with birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. Two bogeys and just the one birdy on the back gave him a two-day total of 149 on the par-71 course.

Creighton, who plays out of the new Ashburn course outside Halifax, began the four-day tournament Wednesday with a six-over 77 that put him into a large group tied for 19th.

Vincent Saulnier of Clare Golf and Country Club, who was tied for 13th after Wednesday’s opening round, withdrew yesterday.

Also making the cut heading into the final rounds today and Saturday were Stephane LeBlanc of Clare, tied for 31st (78-79-157); Justin Wood of Digby Pines, tied for 39th (79-80-159); and Anthony LeBlanc of Clare, tied for 42nd (82-78-160).

Missing the cut were Murray Carruthers and Matthew Smith of Digby, and Devin Maillet of Clare.

Leading the championship after two days was Bradford Curren of Oakfield CC, now at level par of 142. He shot a two-under 69 to go with his opening round of two over.

The first round leader, Jody Swim of River Hills Golf and Country Club, slipped to 7th after his initial 69 was followed by a 79.
