DIGBY, NS- The Don Brown Memorial ball field is getting some renovations before the upcoming season.

“Were doing this because we met with our user groups and this is what we were told needed to be done,” said Digby Area Recreation Commission director Bob Powell.

The dugouts are being rebuilt, the old wood has been torn off and new steel roofing is being installed.

A new fence will also be installed in front of the dugouts.

The infield is being reshaped because of some minor issues. There was a lip in between the infield and outfield because of heavy use and maintenance, he said.

“It should be ready well before any of our user groups need the field.”

Work is under way now and lf all goes well, the project should only take about 10 days.

“We certainly needed it.”

The project cost is estimated around $16,282. The town is working with the Digby Area Recreation Commission for the project.

They have as well applied for funding from the province to help with costs.

The ball field is temporarily closed while work is being done, so the Digby Area Recreation Commission is asking the public to stay off the field until renovations are finished.
