Battle of Digby County - Digby senior boys win soccer season opener over Clare

DIGBY – The Digby senior boys soccer team opened their season with a convincing win.

The Mariners hosted Ecole Secondaire de Clare (ESdC) Sept. 27 on a damp and foggy Digby Regional High School (DRHS) field.

Tokio Horie opened the scoring for Digby with the only two goals of the first half.

Horie then started the second half with an assist, passing the ball back from Clare’s end line to Logan Bell waiting on top of the six for the tap in.

A few minutes later Horie notched the hat trick – he got his foot behind a bouncing loose ball outside the 18 and hammered a hard level unsaveable rocket deep into the Clare net to make it 4-0.

Noah Titus scored Digby’s fifth.

Dawson Acker played goal the first half then played forward and midfield for the second half.

He had several great chances on goal and looked sure to score on his second breakaway but was tackled inside the 18.

He was awarded a penalty kick and tucked it neatly out of reach and into the corner to finish the scoring at 6-0 Digby.

The senior girls play Clare today Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m., the junior boys Sept. 29, and the junior girls Sept. 30.

The senior boys next home game is Oct. 11 at 4:45 p.m.
