Weymouth wins Shelburne baseball tournament

It was all Digby County in the championship game of the Shelburne County Mosquito Year-end Tournament.

The Weymouth Firebirds brought home the Shelburne County trophy with a 14-2 win over the Digby Tigers on Sunday, Sept. 8 in Clark’s Harbour.

Weymouth had five wins and no losses in the eight-team tournament.

Digby and Weymouth started out in the same pool with Lockport and Liverpool.

Weymouth finished first in that pool with three straight wins on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7.

Digby finished second, losing only to Weymouth.

Sunday morning Weymouth beat Clark's Harbour and Digby beat Shelburne in the semi-finals to advance to the all-Digby County final.

Bantam B provincials in Lockport

The Digby Navigators Bantam B baseball team travelled to Lockport for provincials on the weekend of Aug. 24-26.

They lost to Lockport 12-0 Friday night.

Saturday they lost again after an extra inning against Woodlawn. The four-hour marathon ended up 27-20.

The tired Navigators turned around and played Liverpool that night, losing 28-4.  Sunday morning the played Cole Harbour and lost 13-0.  

Digby team manager Tim Gunn wasn’t worried about the team not recording a win.

“They played with a lot of heart, had a lot of fun and represented Digby Area Ball with a lot of pride,” he said.
