YARMOUTH, N.S. – Thanks to the generosity and hard work of four-year-old Payton d’Entremont, many who are struggling with the challenges of cancer will receive assistance.

Wearing her favourite Wonder Woman outfit, d’Entremont had her waist-length golden locks cut on Nov. 4, during a fundraiser for the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Yarmouth.

The trim was held in conjunction with a supper and silent auction.

Payton’s hair will be used in the construction of a wig for cancer patients by Panteen. The company will arrange for a letter to be sent to Payton from whoever receives the wig.

In conjunction with her haircut, this summer Payton and her mother Candice Keech d’Entremont attended two SWITCH events on Main Street in Yarmouth, went door-to-door and approached businesses to fundraise. In doing so they collected $3,250 for the Gilles Boudreau And Friends Cancer Help Fund.

Candice says she’s always been a fundraiser and wanted her children, as they are growing up, to learn to do good things for other people.

“There’s not enough good in the world,” she said.

The Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund is named after Yarmouth County resident Gilles Boudreau, who died from cancer in 2008 at the age of 48.

Boudreau’s widow Melina says individuals sometimes come forward with fundraising ideas for the fund but that Payton is the youngest.

“Definitely. She was really cute,” she said.

The fund provides financial assistance for local residents receiving cancer treatment outside the area.

Last year the organization provided assistance to 98 people.
