SHELBURNE - A free public reception showcasing 30 finalists and the winners of the Osprey Arts Centre’s Unseen Shelburne photo contest will be held at the facility on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.
The contest accepted photo submissions from the community of Shelburne County captured between July 1 and Aug. 31 of this year.
All ages and skill levels were encouraged to participate. The contest called for images that captured everyday activities, architecture and/or lower trafficked areas within the county. Photographs that told a story or perhaps shed light on a social or economic issue within the county were also encouraged.
Submitted images are judged based on criteria including impact, originality, artistic merit, storytelling, composition, as well as quality/clarity by a jury of select local artists/photographers.
The evening will include a gallery exhibition of the 30 finalist photographs, as well as the announcement of the first prize winner ($125 cash prize), two runner-up winners ($25 each), as well as the people’s choice category winner (based upon Facebook “likes” and $50 cash prize). Refreshments will be provided and a cash bar will be open.
There has been overwhelming support for the contest with over 160 submissions from across the county, organizers say.
