These lobsters filled a carrying tub – normally you’d get about 50 lobsters in a tub of that size.

Chester Richard, captain of the Fundy Mariner has won the Jumbo Lobster Contest – the opening event of Digby’s Lobster Bash.

Richard’s lobster weighed a whopping 16.85 pounds.

Judge and sponsor of the event, Dean Kenley, weighed three other gargantuan lobsters on the outdoor stage behind the Fundy Complex, Friday afternoon July 5.

Jeff Durkee of the Thunder Cat had the second biggest lobster – it weighed in at 16.1 pounds.

Jason Melanson of the Millennium Mariner came in third with a 14.85-pound lobster.

Captain of the Lady Meaghan, Byron Wrae came fourth with his one armed lobster weighing 14.1 pounds.

To be eligible, the lobsters had to be caught between April 1 and July 5 in a legal lobster trap, by a fisherman with a lobster license and fishing from a port within LFA 33, 34, 35, 36 or 38.

Kenley will keep the winning lobster on display in an aquarium at the Fundy Complex in Digby.
