The DRHS Mariners opened play at 11:30 with an exhibition match and 10-0 victory against Parkview High School from Bridgewater.
The South Shore school is in its first year of play, but is already showing great competency, said Digby coach Alain Saulnier. Despite the score and having only one spare, Parkview managed to dominate the field during much of the opening half.
The high school match was followed by Premier League action, with both women’s and men’s games.
An athletic women’s club from Enfield played against an experienced Dartmouth club, the Lady Pig Dogs at 1:30 p.m., while men’s action is just underway with the Valley Bulldogs meeting the Dartmouth Pig Dogs.
The Premier League matches were sponsored by Rugby Nova Scotia and marks the opening of the league’s season.
