Track coach Kim Roy said the team didn’t fare as well was hoped at the Regionals, which were held May 29-30 in Lunenburg.
The DRHS team had won the District championship May 13-14 in Bridgetown by more than 100 points, and took first place in four of six divisions—junior girls, intermediate boys, senior girls and senior boys.
However, said Roy, the team is sending nine athletes, including one Special Olympics athlete, to the provincial championship, which is the largest high school event hosted by NSSAF with over 800 athletes from 180 schools.
The advancing athletes and their finishing at Lunenburg, are:
Joseph Robicheau, third in 800-metre and 1500m; Jordan Cromwell, third in javelin; Emily Theriault, fourth in 1500m and 3000m, and fifth in 400m; Kayla Tidd, fourth in high jump; Cory Saulnier, fifth in hurdles; Kalesha McCully, fifth in 100m; Jonnie White, fifth in 1500m; Rebecca Walker, fifth in high jump; and Special Olympic athlete Joanna Pineau, who won her long jump event and was fourth in the 100m.
DRHS qualified 33 athletes for the Regional championships in Lunenburg.
Also qualifying for Provincials was Jordan Cromwell of Saint Mary’s Bay Academy who won the intermediate boys high jump with a jump of 1.75 metres.
