Digby’s senior girls walked over Weymouth 70-16 this week.

The Lady Mariners hosted St. Mary’s Bay Academy Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 8. “This was our first game this season,” explained St. Mary’s Bay Academy coach Tonia Cromwell. “We only just got started before Christmas and some of these girls have never played organized basketball before.”

Cromwell says the Digby game showed her just what her team needs to work on: “We weren’t boxing out – Digby would shoot and make it or shoot and miss – and every time they missed they were able to get the ball back. We have to stop giving them those points. “And our offence, we aren’t moving the ball well yet, passing inside.

St. Mary’s has nine more league games this season.

The Digby girls play an exhibition this Thursday, Jan. 10 in Bridgewater. “That’s an important game,” says Digby coach Tyler Colwell. “They’re division three like us and there’s a good chance we’ll see them at Regionals.”

The Lady Mariners are also playing in the Canning tournament this weekend at the North King’s Educational Centre.
