Having lost both regular season games to Bridgetown and poised for revenge, Digby U-14 boys soccer team defeated Bridgetown in their semi-final playoff game by a score of 1-0 in sudden death penalty kicks.
The boys played with determination and true grit, resulting in a 0-0 score after regulation time. Digby outplayed Bridgetown with 5-2 shots on net.
In keeping with playoff regulations, the tie went directly to penalty kicks. As the nail biter continued, Digby and Bridgetown were tied again after 5 and 5 shots resulting in sudden death penalty kicks. The Bridgetown striker made a strong shot on goal, but Digby’s keeper Riley LeBlanc made a crucial save for the advantage. Digby’s Dawson Acker then stepped up to take his shot, and as the sun set, he drove the ball past the Bridgetown goalie for the win.
Digby will play in the District Championship game against East Kings this Thursday, Aug. 30 in Port Williams. The winner will advance to Provincials to be held in Eastern Passage Sept. 8-9.
