The Digby U-14 boys soccer team defeated King’s West McNally 3-1 at the district quarter-final playoff match August 23 in Kentville.

Digby outplayed their rivals in the first half, with goals from mid-fielder Nathan Janson and forward Brandon Sullivan. However, King’s West came alive in the second half and scored to make it a 2-1 game. It was the threat of a tie that fueled the Digby players into action, with Nathan Janson scoring in the last five minutes of play, giving the Digby Tigers a safer lead and final score of 3-1.

The Digby win means that they will face off against Bridgetown August 28 for the semi-final match. A win will send the Digby Tigers to the district championship August 30 against the winner of the other valley semi-final match between East Kings and Kingston/Greenwood. Provincials will be held in Harbour East, September 8-9.

Digby has three other teams advancing in the district playoffs this weekend.

District silver medal winners, the Digby U-18 girls team, will play for the provincial title August 24 in Sackville.

The Digby senior men’s team finished second for the district title. However, they won their qualifying game and are going to provincials this weekend in New Ross.

The Clare U-16 boys team, made up of Digby and Clare players, will face off against Kings West August 25 in Kentville for their semi-final match. If they win, they will play in the district championship game that afternoon. However, both the first and second place district winners will advance provincials, taking place in the valley September 1-2.
