Game this afternoon opens two-game, total goal series with Bridgetown

A 3-3 game Monday gave Digby Regional’s junior boys soccer team the win in a two game, total goal series with Middleton. Digby eliminated Middleton by a score of 7-3 over its two games.

The junior Mariners now play a home-and-home with Bridgetown, with a game today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m., and the second in Bridgetown on Friday. The winner this series will then host Regionals.

If the Mariners win it will be the first time in a number of years that Digby’s junior boys have hosted Regionals, which are as far as a team can go in its post-season play. There are no provincial championships in junior soccer.

However, only the winner moves on from the Digby-Bridgetown series.

In Monday’s game at home against Middleton, Nathan Janson scored first, before Middleton scored twice to go ahead in the first half.

Digby’s Noah Thomas then scored on a penalty shot before Middleton again moved ahead by a goal. Ryan Doucette tied the game for Digby with about 10 minutes left in play.

The Mariners had the ball in Middleton's end for much of the second half and had a number of scoring chances.
