It looked for two periods Sunday that the Valley Fuelers could have their first home ice win of the season. Instead, a three-goal final period saw them on the short end of a 5-2 game.

The Fuelers were able to match the North Shore Storm for 30 minutes, with both teams scoring one goal in each of the first two periods. The Fuelers even led 2-1 for more than three minutes in the second frame after a goal by Ryan Ewing, assisted by Tristan Reede and Theron Lane.

Team captain Eric Cook had put the Fuelers on the scoreboard in the opening period at 4:41, with an assist by Tyler Robertson.

Goalie Chris Hersey took the loss as the Storm outshot Valley 39-16.

It was the weekend’s second loss for the Fuelers who were shut out 3-0 in Yarmouth Saturday by the Kings.

The North Shore Storm also played Saturday in the region, losing 7-2 to Clare Lions in the Université Sainte Anne rink.
