A pumped up Devin Robicheau sank the first of two foul shots in the closing seconds yesterday to give Digby Regional High School a 78-77 win over visiting Bridgetown.

The Digby Mariners took a quick 19-15 lead in the first quarter, led by Arron Titus who racked up 37 points against the Trojans. But the flow of the game changed in the second quarter and the Mariners seemed unable to block the Bridgetown offense.

The half ended with the Trojans up 42-38 after a quarter that saw them outscore Digby 27-19.

Both teams played evenly in the third quarter, with the Mariners trailing only by three. Turnovers and fast breaks by Titus saw Digby claw its way back into the game after it appeared Bridgetown had taken charge.

With the small crowd urging the Mariners to tighten their defence, Digby finally regained the lead in the fourth quarter in which they outscored Bridgetown, 20-16. But the end was in doubt until the final seconds when Robicheau was fouled under his own net by Bridgetown’s Kyle Chute.

The foul sent Robicheau to the foul line with two free throws, the first of which went in and proved the game winner.

Also scoring for the Mariners were Drew Sabean, Anthony Hakim, Victor Vaz, Brendan Melanson and Kolby Stark.

Yesterday’s game restores senior boys’ basketball to DRHS after the team dropped out of league play last January when too few players showed for games.
