MONASTERY—A stronger showing in the second half wasn’t enough for the Lady Mariners soccer team from Digby Regional, which lost 1-0 this afternoon to Les Léopards from École du Carrefour in Dartmouth.

The result was a reversal of last year’s Division 3 provincial championship that saw Digby pull out a 2-1 victory over the same Dartmouth team after trailing 1-0 at the half.

This year’s final at East Antigonish was played in brisk fall conditions, with temperatures about six degrees and a steady wind.

Playing with the wind at their back in the first half, the Digby team was unable to use the advantage, and Carrefour dominated the field.

The Dartmouth girls scored early in the second half, when a corner kick was headed into the Mariners’ net.

Digby stepped up its play and controlled much of the second half’s play, but ran out of time.

In the consolation game played earlier today, New Germany downed host team East Antigonish.
