Just one second, that’s all there was.

Just one second left on the clock when Dawson Acker scored to send Friday’s Bantam C hockey game into overtime in the Digby Area Arena.

The home team Bantam C Ravens had battled back in the third period from a 4-1 deficit after the opening two frames, but still trailed the Bridgewater Hawks, 5-4.

With the game almost over, Acker won the faceoff in the Bridgewater end and slapped a shot into the Hawks’ net, sending the home crowd into noisy delirium.

It was Acker’s second goal of the game, but he was to add the winning goal in sudden death overtime, earning a hat trick and a 6-5 victory for the Ravens.

Digby singles came from Nathan Janson, Adam Peck and Dylan Melanson.

The Bantam Ravens now meet Acadia in Liverpool on April 12 for the Division championship.

And, in a somewhat confusing picture, the team has already secured a berth in the provincial championships March 22-24 by earlier beating the same Bridgewater team twice, and both in overtime.

Bridgewater had protested the first win, claiming the game was played under the wrong set of rules.

So, Digby beat the Hawks again the next day, and later found they had used the correct rules the first time.

The Bantams had a 13-3-2 regular season record to put them top of the league by six points.
