The NHL is back and old rivalries are heating up already.

The Digby mayor and a town councillor met recently on the frozen waters of the Racquette, a traditional arena for good old-fashioned shinny.

Danny Harvieux, Digby town councillor and Mayor Ben Cleveland came to this hallowed hockey spot wearing the official jerseys of their favourite teams, to shake on a big bet on the outcome of the truncated 2013 NHL season.

If the Toronto Maple Leafs finish the irregular regular season ahead of the Montreal Canadiens, then the mayor will wear the Leafs jersey to the town's Canada Day barbecue on July 1.

If the Montreal Canadiens finish ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs, then Harvieux will wear the Habs jersey to the barbecue.

Whatever happens, you can be pretty sure councillor Mike Bartlett will be wearing yellow.
