Mariners opening Regional hockey playoffs

The Mariners hockey team from Digby Regional High School is at Par en Bas today, March 6, in the opening game of the Regional playoffs.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Digby Area Arena.

The Mariners earned their berth at Regionals by defeating Bridgewater Vikings in a best-of-three series.

Digby appeared to have won that series in two straight, but the second win Feb. 27 in Bridgewater was overturned, leaving the series tied at a game apiece.

It was an emotional victory March 3 for the Mariners who downed the visiting Vikings, 5-3. The win put DRHS in second place in the league, and the regional winner will move onto the provincial championships being held March 25-27.
