Thanks to community support, a local nine-year-old hockey player will take part in the Nova Scotia Development League at Acadia University.

Owen LeBlanc was recently selected to take part in the Nova Scotia Development League at Acadia University, a program to improve hockey skills of young male and female players.

The budding hockey star likes passing, playing forward and scoring and plays on both the Digby Ravens Novice and the Atom House team.

But the development league registration fees are about $500.

When Tricia Titus received news her son was selected she did not tell Owen right away because she was not sure they could afford the fees.

“I made a comment on Facebook saying how he got accepted to this league and does anybody want to donate $500,” said the single mom.

It was not long before Karen Cormier and Karen Mosher created a letter and were out in the community collecting money. Roughly $380 plus a couple of gas cards were raised almost immediately.

“It is amazing that people will come together and do stuff like that,” Titus said. “It’s a great opportunity and I’m very happy he can go.”

Digby Area Minor Hockey player Nathaniel Lewis received an invitation as well.

The league begins in April to the end of May.
