Last year, the Barrington Ice Dogs came to Clare for the fifth and deciding game and won 3-2. This season, in what is now a best-of-seven series, the Dogs won game 5 in Clare on Friday and then wrapped up the series at home Saturday with a 6-4 win to take the Justin Kenny Trophy as West Division champs.
Clare and Barrington had split games the first two weekends in each other’s rinks.
Barrington now faces the Central Division champions, the Eastern Shore Jr. Mariners in a series that starts Saturday in Musquodoboit Harbour.
The Junior Mariners and Barrington tangled two years ago in the championship game, with the Dogs coming out on top.
On Saturday in Barrington, the Ice Dogs got two goals each from Shayne Devine and Jeff Goulden and then hung on to get a 6-4 win over Clare.
Marc MacIntosh, Mario Blinn, Jean-Marc d'Entremont and Rejean Deveau scored for the Lions, who were outshot 40-32. Nick Comeau took the loss in goal.
The previous night in Clare, the Lions outshot the Dogs 31-26, but lost 3-1 in a game where shots on goal was just a statistic.
Dwight Crowell scored what proved to be the winning goal in the second period and Dustin Goreham added insurance in the third as the Dogs dropped the Lions 3-1. Mario Blinn had the lone goal for the Lions.
