Kiersten Wagner, a 13-year-old who was named the Western Valley Vixens MVP at a recent provincial tournament, shares one important thing with Harvieux: Both come from hockey families who share a love of the game, are happy to act as chauffeurs and cheerleaders, and see the value of having a young person focused on athletic excellence.
Wagner took to the ice at age three as a figure skater. At eight she made the switch to hockey, joining the Digby minor hockey league. Two years ago, she made yet another switch—to a girls’ hockey team.
Every week, the young forward spends hours practicing, playing, and on the road.
Easter weekend Wagner will head off to a training camp, hoping to improve her already impressive skills.
“She’s coachable and incredibly dedicated,” say her coach, Marty Fancey. “I see her sticking with it.”
