Clare Lions and the Barrington Ice Dogs open their Junior C West Division final series Friday at 8 p.m. in the Université Sainte-Anne arena in Church Point.

Game two will also be this weekend at Church Point, on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The series is a rematch of last year’s division final, won by the Dogs. However, the Lions have been the league’s dominant team this season.

Games three and four are scheduled in Barrington on Friday March 6, at 8 p.m., and Saturday March 7, at 7:30 p.m. A fifth game if necessary will be back in Clare Sunday March 8, at 3:30 p.m.

Winner of the Clare-Barrington series will face the winner of the Central Division where the Avon River Rats, winner of their semi-final series against Chester, are now waiting to see whether they will face Harbour Crunch or the New Waterford Jets.

The Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League awards were announced Tuesday and Coach of the Year honors were shared by Geoff Locke of the Valley Keiths, Dana McCarthy of the Ice Dogs and Michel Deveau of the Lions.

The league MVP is Dustin Goreham of the Ice Dogs, while the top defenseman is Clare’s Stephane Leblanc.
