Defending Nova Scotia Women’s Amateur champion Anne Balser of Digby struggled during her final round and finished as runner-up Saturday in this year’s Amateur championship.
Balser, who led the tournament after each of the first two rounds, finished the day with a 10-over par 82 and a three-day total of 232. The three-day tournament was staged at the Mountain Golf Club outside Truro.
Julia Henderson of the Abercrombie Golf Club in New Glasgow is the new Amateur champion the first junior to triumph since Ken-Wo's Laura Harris won the title in 2004.
Past Amateur champion Laura Harris also struggled during the final round and finished the tournament with a three-day total of 234 to claim third place.
Henderson and Balser will be joined by Cristal Romero-Fitzpatrick of Dartmouth’s Grandview Golf Club to make up the team which will represent Nova Scotia at the Canadian Women's Amateur championship at Lethbridge Country Club in Alberta from July 24-27.
Paragon's Leslie Houde came from behind Saturday with a final round 79 to win the NSGA Women's Senior championship, which was also being played. She captured the championship with a three day total of 237.
