Eric Locke of the Digby Pines Golf Club has qualified for team Nova Scotia at the Canadian Amateur championship to be held Aug. 7-10 at Camelot Golf and Country Club in Cumberland, Ont., and Club de Golf Outaouais in Rockland, Ont.
Locke had two bogies and two birdies for an even par final round today at the Nova Scotia Men’s Amateur golf tournament at Bell Bay Golf Club in Baddeck. His four-round total of 297 put him in a tie for sixth with Glenn Robinson of Ashburn Golf Club, who joins Locke on the Nova Scotia team, along with third place finisher Matt Gallupe of Brightwood Golf Course.
Mathieu Gingras of Moncton Golf Club shot a tournament low four-under 68 in the final round for a four day total of six-under 282 to capture the men's amateur championship by eight shots. Gingras carded three birdies and no bogies on the back nine to pull away from the competition.
Gingras is only the second golfer from New Brunswick to win the Nova Scotia Amateur championship. Moncton’s Ralph Harley captured the Nova Scotia title at Brightwood in 1948.
