Defending NSGA Women's Amateur champion Anne Balser fired a second round one over par 73 on Friday to maintain her lead heading into today’s final round of the 81st Women's Amateur Championship.
Balser, who opened Thursday with a 77, has a three-stroke lead over Julia Henderson heading into the final day’s play.
Balser and playing partners Henderson and Laura Harris carded a total of 14 birdies between them during yesterday's round at the Mountain Golf Club outside Truro.
Henderson, a junior from Abercrombie, also carded one over par 73. She had a total of six birdies during her round, however she a took an eight on the par four 14th hole and double on the par three 16th hole.
Past champion Laura Harris also stepped up yesterday, firing a two over par 74 that left her seven strokes off the lead.
The senior women's championship is also being played in the tournament.
Top three finishers and alternates in both events will represent Nova Scotia in their national tournament. The Canadian Women's Amateur championship is being held at Lethbridge Country Club in Lethbridge, Alta., from Aug. 7-10.
The Canadian Senior Women's championship is being held at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlottetown from Aug. 21-23.
