Youngsters compete for title of Little Miss and Mr. Weymouth

By Karla Kelly FOR THE DIGBY COURIER NovaNewsNow.com Seven year-old Laya Nickerson and six year-old Trey Cromwell were chosen as Little Miss and Mr. Weymouth from among 12 contestants aged 5-9 years of age vying for the titles in the Weymouth Consolidated School gym Tuesday evening.

Judges Jessica Campbell, Theresa Thibault and Jonathan MacBurnie based their decision on the youngsters’ public speaking, creativity, talent and personality.

Event coordinator Michelle Marr said judges faced a difficult task as all the children were terrific. “The evening was a lot of fun for everyone and the children did a great job,” said Marr. “They were eager to participate and being in front of a live audience was something they did not shy away from.”

Each child was introduced to the audience and asked what they would like to be when they grew up.

Answers ranged from a teacher to a doctor, mother, carpenter, musician, artist and basketball player.

Each contestant was asked an impromptu question and later all contestants performed for the audience.

The youngsters sang, played the piano, danced, dribbled a basketball and entertained with a stand up comedy routine.

Included in the evening’s line up were dance numbers from Helena’s School of Dance.

Each contestant received prizes from the evening’s sponsors and Little Miss and Mr. Weymouth will participate in the Weymouth Days parade.
