They then defeated the SMBA Lady Stingrays in St. Bernard the next day.
Kendra Lewis led the way against the Trojans with a strong performance under the net, scoring 10 points for the win.
Over half of Bridgetown’s points came from the foul line with Emma Connell dropping in 10 for the visitors.
Coach Ed Connell said he was pleased with the game and although he has a young team they are showing promise.
The Lady Mariners met up with an improved Stingray squad at SMBA and close first quarter play gave the Mariners a narrow 8-7 lead.
It was all Mariners in the second quarter as the visitors went on a 10-0 run. Sophie Amirault put up six points to lead her team 18-7 at the half.
Second half action was close, 18-13 in favour of the Mariners with SMBA failing to capitalize on their free throws going three for eight in the final frame.
Stingrays coach Darlene Johns said she was encouraged with the improved play from her team at both ends of the court.
“We kept pace with the Mariners in the first and third quarters and better performance at the foul line would have made for a closer game,” said Johns. “The girls went 2-2 at a recent Yarmouth tournament and this gave them the boost they needed for tonight’s game.”
Mariners coach Christine Kelly said she was pleased with the balanced scoring in both games as the girls worked to share the ball.
“Our forwards are picking up under the basket with stronger rebounding and put-backs and that is making a difference in the score,” Kelly said.
“Our last league game is against Islands on Feb. 10 and a win against them secures top spot in the league, which we need to host districts later in the month.”
Mallory Francis poured in 11 points with Sophie Amirault netting eight and Rebecca Walker adding seven for the Mariner win.
Micaella Sabine led the Stingrays with seven points and Laurel Wagner added five.
The Lady Mariners' next home game is on Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. against Middleton.
