Lions edge Rats, Fuelers on road trip

Clare Lions outshot the Avon River Rats 40-30 to win 2-1 in regulation Friday in the first of two home games this weekend in Junior C hockey action.

Clare’s goals were both scored by Mario Blinn, with Stephane LeBlanc collecting assists on each.

Goalie Colin LeBlanc got the win in nets for the Lions, making 29 of 30 saves.

Avon’s goal was scored by Brandyn Ross.

The Lions host the Chester Clippers today at 8 p.m. in the Université Sainte-Anne arena in Church Point.

In last night’s battle of the second-place teams, the Central division’s Clippers edged the West division’s Barrington Ice Dogs 6-5 in overtime last night in Barrington.

Digby-based Valley Fuelers are playing today in New Waterford at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday in Amherst with an afternoon match against the Phantoms.
