Both teams played a fast paced and close first quarter, with the Stingrays edging out the Trojans 27-18.
Jordan Cromwell led the Stingray attack, dropping in 11 of his 22 points for the night in the first frame.
The Stingrays opened up the scoring with turnovers and fast breaks and the Trojans were unable to halt the volley of threes as John Ward hit three from behind the arc.
Patrick Johns added his own three to spark a 29-7 Stingray run for the 56-25 half time lead.
Bridgetown’s Josh Murray ran the baseline for four quick layups while Greg McGormand netted seven points to get the Trojan offence moving in the third quarter but the Stingrays took the frame 26-18.
A flurry of three-pointers fell in the final frame to seal the Stingray win, putting SMBA at 7-1.
Trojan coach Brad Barbour said it was a bad loss for his team but they played hard against the Stingrays.
“This was a hard game against the Stingrays, but the team didn’t stop playing until the final buzzer,” said Barbour. “Hopefully, we’ll improve to be more competitive over the next few weeks.”
Stingray coach Craig Glavin said the game was a good league win with everyone playing well together as a team.
“We were missing a couple of key players, but the rest of the team stepped up to fill the gap,” Glavin said. “We were slow at the start but they picked it up, settling into a good rhythm at both ends of the court.
“Our three-point shooting wasn’t severely challenged and those 14 threes helped open up the game for us,” he said.
Five Stingray players scored in double digits, with John Ward netting 27 points, including five three pointers.
Patrick Johns scored 25 points and Jordan Cromwell added 22 for the Stingray win.
Josh Murray scored 20 points for the Trojans and Greg McGormand netted 17.
In the Barrington tournament, SMBA went undefeated in all four matchups to claim the championship trophy.
Tournament MVP Jordan Cromwell had 35 points and Patrick Johns netted 21 to lead the Stingrays 85-57 over the Shelburne Rebels in the first game.
On Saturday morning SMBA cruised by the Middleton Martins, 102-71, with John Ward scoring 23 points and Patrick Johns adding 22.
The Barrington Barons fell to the Stingrays 103-43 in the afternoon match to put SMBA in the championship game.
Blake Doucette had a game high 27 points including five three pointers while John Ward chipped in 23 for the SMBA win.
The championship game was a rematch against the Rebels with Stingrays Patrick Johns scoring a tournament high 38 points and Jordan Cromwell added 18 in the 83-58 Stingray victory.
