After dominating Junior C play this season, Clare Lions have suffered a replay of last year’s finale. The Western Division playoffs went to a fifth game Sunday and again the Barrington Ice Dogs came out on top.

Jimmie Ross, Shane Devine and Jeff Goulden provided the offense and Josh Merrick made 32 stops as the Ice Dogs completed the comeback to take the Lions 3-2 at Université Sainte-Anne in Church Point.

Roger Camus and Marcel Landry replied for the Lions. Colin Leblanc took the loss in goal. Barrington outshot Clare 35-34.

The Lions had won the first two games of the series, both on home ice, but the momentum shifted with the change in ice surfaces. Barrington handed Clare a 4-1 drubbing Friday and a 6-4 loss Saturday, before the series reverted to Church Point.

It was an all-too-familiar ending for Lions fans.

The series last year went to four games, after game 3 in Clare was protested and replayed the following night. The Lions lost in Game 4 in Barrington 7-1.

The Ice Dogs were later defeated by Musquodoboit Harbour Crunch for the provincial title.

This year, the Dogs move on to play the Avon River Rats for the league championship. The Rats won their Central Division series with New Waterford Jets in four games.
